The Studio

Everything starts here. A Whisper Room isolation booth in the basement of my house in Fulton, Illinois. Broadcast-grade signal chain from mic to interface. The kind of setup that took a decade to build right, because for a long time I kept stopping just short of doing it right.

Clients get audio they can drop straight into their project. No room noise, no hiss, no “sounds like someone’s basement.” Just clean, professional voice over delivered fast.

The Recording Booth

I found this Whisper Room on Craigslist. Listed way below market. I Googled a hack to search by proximity and it showed up near Nashville — a 4×6 professional isolation booth in perfect condition. My buddy Matt drove down first to check it out. He called me. I rented a U-Haul.

We drove to Nashville, loaded that thing up, and had an amazing weekend that ended with a very long drive home. Worth every mile. The booth that was sitting in someone’s garage in Tennessee is now the voice over studio in my basement in Illinois. It’s airtight. It’s dead quiet. And it sounds exactly like what you need.

Behind the Booth

The Microphone

The Neumann was my dream mic before I even seriously considered voice over as a career. Broadcast-grade condenser. Picks up everything you want and nothing you do not. There is a reason engineers reach for these in commercial studios, and there is a reason I saved up until I could justify having one in my basement.

The mic does not do the work. The mic does not forgive bad takes. What it does is capture a real performance without adding anything or taking anything away. That matters on a national Dove spot the same way it matters on a 30-second local radio read.

Source Connect

Source Connect means your studio engineer can plug into my session in real time from anywhere in the world. You get the same live direction you would in a physical studio — monitoring my levels, stopping and resetting takes, adjusting performance on the fly — without anyone getting on a plane.

If your team is used to live sessions, this is how we do it. No quality loss, no workarounds, no excuses about latency. Professional remote recording done right.

Source Connect in Action

The Signal Chain

Neumann mic into an Aphex preamp and processor, then into the interface. The Aphex handles gain staging and cleanup before the signal ever hits a plugin. Less fixing in post, cleaner files for your editor, faster turnaround for everyone.

The chain is built around one goal: the audio that leaves here should not need anything done to it on your end. Clean files, delivered fast. That is the whole point.

Recording on Location

The basement booth handles 95% of what comes through. But sometimes a project needs something different — a live event, an on-site shoot, or a situation where the studio needs to come to the client. The mobile rig travels. The quality does not drop when it does.
